Is your PETG sheet safe for food contact?

Yes, we offer specific grades that are fully compliant with FDA regulations for food contact.

We often thermoform PVC. Is switching to PETG difficult?

Not at all – in fact, it's often easier! PETG is a dream to thermoform. It requires lower heat than many other engineering plastics, has a wide forming window, and doesn't release harmful fumes like PVC can. The main adjustment is that PETG can be slightly "stickier" in its molten state, so tooling and release parameters might need fine-tuning for optimal release.

Can PETG be easily fabricated (cut, routed, bonded)?

Yes, it is highly fabricator-friendly. It can be cleanly cut with CNC routers, laser cutters (with proper ventilation), and saws. For bonding, standard cyanoacrylate (super glue) and specific solvent cements work very well, creating strong, clear seams. Always test your specific adhesive on a sample first.

What's the main drawback or limitation of PETG I should know about?

Its moderate heat resistance is its primary limitation. Don't use it for parts that will be exposed to sustained high temperatures (e.g., in a dishwasher, near engines, or for hot food serving lids). Also, while resistant to many chemicals, it is attacked by strong solvents like ketones (acetone) and certain chlorinated hydrocarbons, which can cause stress cracking.
